The Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Insurance provides you with enhanced understanding of insurance practice and is a comprehensive assessment of market knowledge and understanding. It provides an indicator of your advanced technical awareness and critical understanding of the sector to your colleagues, customers and regulators. Widely recognised, it stands as evidence of your commitment and ability, and can be your passport to a successful career. Holders of the Advanced Diploma can apply for Chartered status and progress to Fellowship

Qualification details

The Advanced Diploma in Insurance is appropriate for:

  • Practising insurance managers and technical specialists who wish to demonstrate and enhance their professional expertise
  • Insurance professionals with aspirations to become managers and specialists in the future
  • Insurance employees who wish to progress from either professional insurance qualifications such as the CII Level 4 Diploma in Insurance, or from academic qualifications

Those who wish to apply for Chartered status and progress to Fellowship

We recommend you complete the Diploma in Insurance or equivalent, prior to studying for the Advanced Diploma.

The Advanced Diploma comprises three compulsory units and option units from across the insurance qualifications framework. A minimum of 290 CII credits must be obtained for successful completion, with at least 205 CII credits at Diploma level or above, including at least 150 CII credits at Advanced Diploma level. 

Select only three compulsory units from the following: 

  • Insurance, Business and Finance (M92) – 25 CII credits Or Economics and Business (530) – 30 CII credits. 
  • Insurance Law (M05)  25 CII credits. 
  • Advanced Claims (820) Or Advanced Insurance Broking (930) Or Advanced Underwriting (960). 30 CII credits each. 

The remaining credits can come from any units within the insurance qualifications framework.

Underwriting 

Assuming the candidate already holds the Diploma in Insurance and its respective units, 

a popular underwriting pathway may include the combination: 

Compulsory units: 

  • Economics and Business (530) 
  • Advanced Underwriting (960) 

Option units: 

  • Advanced Claims (820) 
  • Strategic Underwriting (995) 
  • Marketing Insurance Products and Services (945) 

This will provide the required 150 CII credits at Advanced Diploma Level. 

 

Broking 

Assuming the candidate already holds the Diploma in Insurance and its respective units, 

a popular broking pathway may include the combination: 

Compulsory units: 

  • Economics and Business (530) 
  • Advanced Insurance Broking (930) 

Option units: 

  • Advanced Underwriting (960) 
  • Risk Management in Insurance (992) 
  • Marketing Insurance Products and Services (945) 

This will provide the required 150 CII credits at Advanced Diploma Level. 

 

Claims 

Assuming the candidate already holds the Diploma in Insurance and its respective units, 

a popular claims pathway may include the combination: 

Compulsory units: 

  • Economics and Business (530) 
  • Advanced Claims (820) 

Option units: 

  • Insurance Corporate Management (990) 
  • Strategic Claims Management (996) 
  • Risk Management in Insurance (992) 

This will provide the required 150 CII credits at Advanced Diploma Level.
